New rules

Now here's a good one. Go to the Pitching rule and read the definition of Leaping. The last line reads "This is illegal". Well in 2010 it will read..."This is legal" Anyway the KL games were quite good. No surprises Japan took the championships. Here's a picture of the pitcher in action. She won the best pitcher award.

Aneh betul.

Penang Open

Well we're done with the Penang Open. It was a real good experience. The teams were top class and provided me with a good warm up to the coming International in KL. It was also a great thing working with top umpires. What bugs me the most was that I forgot to bring along my camera.
The KL trip is going to be an interesting one. It kicks off with a clinic on the 2010 rules. Looking forward to it.

OK dah selesai Penang Open. Sayangnya I terlupa bawa kamera I.
Esok akan bermula klinik peraturan baru 2010-2014, saya cukup minat.

Thanks to PPD, Tn Hj Zamani and our PTS, En Hanafi through whose hard work, the course for the promotion of Softball in LMS gets underway today in SJK (C) Hua Lian 3 with a total of close to 40 teachers attending with Charles conducting and Susan, Rani, Anita, Syed and Azman assisting.

It is hope that with this course, more schools will make their appearance in the District Tournament next year.

Umpires course

It has been a great 2days with this group of budding umpires from Malaysian Technical Schools. They have shown great aptitude and attitude during the course. Wish them best of luck tomorrow as they sit for the accreditation exam.

Let's rock and roll

Looks like next week we're going to get a whole new batch of propective umps! That's just great news! A great initiative by the Vocational and Technical Division of the Edu Ministry. They're conducting nation-wide courses for teachers from Technical Schools. Haven't seen an accreditation exercise on this scale before. Kudos!!

Nampaknya Bahagian Vokasional & Teknik Kem.

PLAYBALL!

Thanks, Charles for the mention and allowing me to share in the Glory of the team. I was equally as proud as both of you for reaching the Pinicle in Perak. Next step is National Level. Let's take ourselves to that next level together.

Our next target should be the MSSPK next year.

Congratulations to you and Sue.

WE are the CHAMPIONS OF SUPER 2009

While this has nothing to do about Umpiring I can't help but crow about it. After much effort on my part and later by Jerry(on the right) we finally got a major trophy for the district team. Of course Jerry has many other feathers in his cap but for me this is my crown. This is because The Lesslars (Sue and I) carried the team to the Championships powered of course by Jerry's razor sharp tactics. We won it. We proved ourselves.

pitching anyone?

Now here's a trick question...

Ini adalah satu teka teki untuk Pengadil

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

watch the umps

This seems to be an example of 2 man system of umpiring. Although the focus is on the pitching (good practice for umps - see if you can read the pitches) catch the movement of the plate ump. There are also some shots of the first base umps movement into the diamond.

Bleak Wednesday

Oh oh! Looks like Charles is going thru a post-delivery syndrome... hahaha.. Yeah.. Looks like we are not running at the speed that we were planning on but no worries Charles, We do what we can. Perhaps most have not had the chance to go thru as yet and unaware of this blog.

Looks like we are having a go ahead with the Course thanks to Hanafi. So if there are any readers out there who have any ideas of conducting both a basic course for new Softball coaches as well as any useful tips and websites for reference, your help is greatly needed.

Cheers to all and Happy Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all our Muslim Friends and fellow umpires.

bleah!!!

As much as I started out all gung-ho and full of fire...I'm beginning to get pretty depressed with the fact that only Jerry Tan and Jimmy are followers. No doubt there have been several others who have read the blogs but I would be very much happier if I was not the only one carrying the burden of putting in entries...not counting Jerry of course. Thanks Jerry.

umpire shirt

Ah Bee has done a T-shirt that looks a lot like the ISF shirt. The colour and the logo however are not the same. But to methe logo somehow looks really garish. The two pockets and the trim are faithful to the original however. Overall kudos to Ah Bee for trying. Priced at RM28 its a steal for the novelty of the product and the kind of material.

Neville says of the vid

The action of the pitcher is smooth and continuous, while the back foot
leaves the plate there appears to be some contact with the ground (the
pitcher may push-off and drag the pivot foot). Did the pivot foot get
airborne? Maybe yes and maybe no. I don't think so looking at the video and
if it did by how much? If he is no more than just an inch or so or if we
have to get down on our knees to see clearly that he is not in contact with
the ground, then he is in contact. Looking at the video there seems to be a
drag mark which would suggest that he is in contact at least some of the
time if not all of the time.

While the pitching action is broken up into many parts, the important thing
is to look at the overall action of the pitcher and not focus on just one
area or aspect.

My understanding is that while he was called early in the tournament. What
we are looking at here would appear to be alright.

Crow Hop in Slow Mo

Let's look at the Australian Pitcher in very Slow Mo. Wonder why they don't penalise it. Maybe Charles can send it to the higher-ups and see what they say? Or else, anyone of us attending our certification will have a problem of whether to penalise or not, So Charles, how?

ISF Finals between Australia and New Zealand

Is there a CROW HOP here? Can anyone confirm?

Adakah Teknik Salah disini? Boleh kah sesiapa katakan?

Thanks to Charles

Thanks to Charles for getting this off the ground. It would be a great place for us to start discussions on rules and situations so that we can always seek to improve ourselves.

Unfortunately, my bahasa is rusty and wondering if I have got the translation correct... hahaha

lets get this blog moving

Last night while chatting with Jerry I found out that I had not been up to reading his postings. During the course of the discussion he suggested that I open up this blog...so there is now an open invitation. Any umpire (Perak: first preference) who want to co author this blog just send me your e-mail and I will invite you onto the blog. So thank Jerry for your 6 comments just keep them coming.

H1N1

Things aren't looking good for anybody planning to leave the country. More and more cases of the Influenza are cropping up everywhere. So far we've been lucky we have no fatalities. Thailand has reported 40 deaths resulting from the influenza.

a sad day

Looks like the Min of Edu, is sticking to its guns. All the attempts to get them to make an exception came to naught... but well there will be other tournaments in the future. Hope I will not be the rare ISF umpire in this country. Come on guys you can do it!!

Akhirnya semua usaha oleh Persatuan terbuntu juga. Kem.

whats d call?

Runner on 2nd base. No down. A batter swung at and hit a fly straight up in the air. She ran out of the box and cringed in front of the plate as the ball was falling straight down. The catcher tripped over her trying to catch the fly, as a result the ball dropped untouched and rolled into foul territory. As Plate umpire what would you have done?

This is a great one..its Baseball though.

Mekanik baru untuk memanggil Straik....Baseballlah :)

Wednesday, 1 July 2009

Something very interesting to look at and consider. Was it a clean strike or dropped ball?

Cuba meniliti...bola Straik atau bola jatuh

mechanics

At the final of the MSSM recently the importance of proper umpire mechanics was really hammered home to me. The situation was 4 man ump sys...runner on first...a hit to left field. The 3rd base ump was slow getting into position and missed the fact that the batter/runner had missed base. On appeal all we could say was nobody saw it. It was really sad because spectators noticed but the ump didn't. As umpires we should prepare ourselves for every tournament. The players do...so we owe it to them

Phew! these months of May and June have been hectic, what with tournament after tournament at National level the umpires have had a wild time. I think I can personally attest to the fact that never before have we had such a slew of National level tournaments at one go. Its a good thing however because our junior umpires can garner lots of experience and try to move up the ladder to the ISF rating. Kudos to my good friend Shahruddin, as far as I know he's the only National umpire to have finished his record of tournaments and gone on to another book. Keep it up boy!!

greeting

Hi! Welcome to my new blog. I have just started it and hope you and I can learn from each other. I created this blog as a place for Softball umpires, especially in Perak, to learn and become more professional. Hope we can all contribute to mutual benefit.

Hi! Selamat datang.
